Biography of Terry Chisholm
Terry was born on May 13, 1957 in Kingston, Ontario. His mother's love for music was a big influence in Terry's life. He started playing the piano when he was six years old, and the guitar when he was eight years old. His inspiration was The King (Elvis). Terry has been a fan of the King all his life.
Terry pays tribute to The King, Elvis' latter years. Terry is a Two-Time Canadian National Grand Champion Elvis Tribute Artist. Terry won his first competition in the year 1999 in Kingston, Ontario, and his second competition in Orillia, Ontario in the year 2000. In August 2003, Terry had the pleasure of competing in the "Images of the King" World Elvis Competition and, from among 70 competitors from around the world, he came seventh runner up in the top ten finalists. When one considers Terry has only been performing as a Tribute Artist to the King since 1998, this is an amazing accomplishment.
Terry has been blessed with such an incredible, strong voice, that it's to his advantage when he performs Elvis' powerful songs, such as "How Great Thou Art", "Hurt", "Trilogy" and more. On September 9, 2004, Terry was given the distinct honour in performing some of Elvis' Gospel songs in the St. Andrews Church in Manhattan, New York, just two blocks away from where the World Trade Centre once stood. This beautiful 1847 structure was filled to capacity, with many who were involved in the unforgetable tragedy of September 11, 2001. He opened the September 11 Peace and Tranquility Ceremonies with the song "I Believe" and ended with "You'll Never Walk Alone". His voice filled the once silent church. It was truly and emotional and moving ceremony.
Terry travels throughout Ontario and the United States. He performs at many functions and major conventions. His performances are outstanding and well received. To many of his fans and friends he is known as "The Man with the Voice", but also known as a gentle Teddy Bear, because he has a heart of gold.
He has had the pleasure in performing with the famous Doo Wop Band of the 50's and 60's, The Duprees, in New York City in September 2004, also with Rompin "Ronnie Hawkins" in 2001. He performed at the Radio Station CHFI 98.1 program Oldies Dance to raise funds for the Children's Wish Foundation. He has also been on other TV and Radio Stations in Canada.
Terry is so versatile, that not only does he pay tribute to The King, but he does an outstanding performance as he pays tribute to the legendary Roy Orbison, Mel Carter, Jay Black and the Americans, Righteous Brothers, Vince Gill and various Legends of the Rock 'N' Roll era. He certainly hits the high notes to his potential and is always expanding his variety of music.
Terry is also a multi talented musician. His talent is well displayed as he plays a remarkable five different instruments, of which of his collections is the exact replica of Elvis' guitar. He's toured with various bands all over Canada, like the Calgary Stampede, and more. During his tours, he has had the opportunity to perform with several artists such as Stonewall Jackson, Ronnie Hawkins, Farron Young, The Good Brothers, Anita Parris and many more. In his ventures, he has backed up Elvis Tribute Artists and in doing so, was influenced to become an Elvis Tribute Artist.
His heart is in his performances and has made grown men cry. His greatest accomplishment is glancing into the audience and seeing the smiles on their faces, knowing that he had brought back some memories into their lives.
Terry Chisholm is an all round talented entertainer, and a very personable and genuine person.
